I know some people have been having problems with changing/Spoofing their IP. I thought I'd make a thread where you can post problems, solutions, debates, etc on what is the best way to change the IP for your system. Be specific about your system and internet connection. It varys with your setup.
First of all, what is an IP?
And why would I want to change it?an IP address (internet protocol address) is a unique number that devices use in order to identify and communicate with each other on a network utilizing the Internet Protocol standard (IP). Any participating network device — including routers, computers, time-servers, printers, internet fax machines, and some telephones — must have its own unique address.
To ensure privacy from internet predators, and obtain a new identification across the internet, which means you will not be reconized as the same person (don't worry, you'll still have you Email address and everything like that), like starting on a new plate. This could be very useful if you've been banned from certain internet sites or gaming servers.
One way to change your IP is to change the MAC address of you IP
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address
for those lucky enough and don't have a router, SMAC is the easiest way to spoof your IP. What you do is type in a MAC address(change the first 6 to 8 digits, leave the last two alone), click ok, and you have a spoofed IP. Any site, hacker, server that reads it will assume that that is the actual address.
Proxyway is also a great program, check it out: www.proxyway.com
People with routers are generally the ones with the greatest problems. Neither SMAC nor proxyway works with a router (Someone correct me if I'm wrong). They have to actually access their router and reconfigure it. To get into your router, go to your internet browser, and type either http://192.168.1.1 or http://127.0.0.1, depending on your router. You will be asked to type in a name and password. Just type in "Admin" in password and leave the name space blank. You should be inside your router. You can sometimes find you MAC in WAN section.
Some people can get a new IP by unplugging their modem, waiting a couple of minutes (or hours, again depending upon how much your ISP [Internet Service Provider] likes you), and then resetting the modem.
There are many methods of changing your IP, these are just some methods that you can toy with and see if they work for you. Feel free to post any problems or solutions that you may have.
